Project Summary
Marshall (Building Contractors) are pleased to announce that construction has begun on the new Wakefield Fire Station, located on Brunswick Street. The £2.9 million project will see the existing fire station demolished and a smaller fit for purpose and more energy efficient replacement will take its place with much lower running cost.
This is a phased programme commencing with the installation of a temporary appliance bay for use with the existing welfare accommodation during most of the project. This temporary bay will allow the next phase to begin – involving demolition of the existing six appliance bays and construction of the new two bay fire station on the same area.
Following construction and fitting out, the former welfare building will be demolished and the site work and security arrangements will be completed.
The actual construction site will require careful ongoing management and planning due to the continued use of the remainder of the site for operational fire and rescue activities.
Securing these works continues on our long standing relationships with West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service (WYFRS) and the support of our emergency services.
Works commenced May 2019 and are expected to complete by March 2021
